What Are SIPs?
Structural Insulated Panels, commonly referred to as SIPs, are a superior building material utilized in residential, commercial, and agricultural construction projects for their high-performance capabilities. These panels consist of a polystyrene foam core that is sandwiched between two structural skins of oriented strand board (OSB) or plywood, with the skin thickness varying based on the size of the building. Our SIPs are manufactured under controlled conditions in a factory and can be customized to meet the specific requirements of each project. The end result is a building system that is not only robust and energy-efficient but also cost-effective. By utilizing SIPs in construction, significant savings can be achieved in terms of time, money, and labor.
How Much Faster Can I Build With SIPs?
SIP buildings can be erected at a significantly faster pace than traditionally framed structures, provided that a properly trained SIP installation crew is employed. This expedites the dry-in process, enabling interior and subcontractor work to commence earlier. Our SIPs can be manufactured in sizes as large as 8′ X 24′, and can be supplied as ready-to-install building components upon arrival at the job site. This eliminates the need for individual operations of framing, insulation, and sheathing, thereby saving valuable time. The panels come with pre-cut window openings, and depending on their size, a separate header may or may not be required. Electrical chases are incorporated within the core of the panels, eliminating the need to drill through studs for wiring.
How Do I Save Money With SIPs?
The exceptional R-values of SIPs, coupled with their superior building tightness, enable HVAC equipment to be downsized and ductwork to be minimized. When integrated with other energy-efficient technologies, SIPs have the potential to reduce annual heating and cooling expenses by 50 percent or more. Homeowners can avail themselves of Energy Efficient Mortgages and benefit from the increased appraised value of an energy-efficient structure.
How Are SIPs Green?
Structural insulated panels (SIPs) represent a highly eco-conscious building system. The SIP building envelope boasts exceptional insulation properties and an airtight construction, resulting in a significant reduction in energy consumption required for heating and cooling a residential or commercial property. The energy consumption of buildings is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and by adopting SIPs, architects, builders, and homeowners can play a pivotal role in promoting a sustainable future by minimizing energy usage.
Are SIPs Susceptible To Bugs
Our panels are fortified with an effective, non-toxic additive that serves as a deterrent against insects. This additive is environmentally friendly and does not contain any dyes, formaldehyde, or HCFCs that deplete the ozone layer. It is inert, non-nutritive, and highly stable, which means it will not decompose, decay, or produce any undesirable gases or leachates. These insect-resistant foam panels are recyclable and safe for both waste-to-energy systems and landfills. The treatment process involves the use of a natural mineral that is specifically formulated to resist woodboring insects, such as carpenter ants and termites. This non-toxic treatment is registered with the EPA, meets the standards of ASTM D3345 and WPA EL 12-72, and has the same lifespan as the rigid insulation.
